Last week, I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with three GORGEOUS girls. All three girls attend Scottsdale Christian Academy(Where I also attended high school!!) and will be graduating this May and continuing their education in college! Stephen and I had a great time getting to know these three spunky girls as they talked about college, fashion and boyfriends. I wish I had as much attitude as these girls have when I was in high school! By attitude, I mean spunk! They were SO fun in front of the camera and each of them had such unique personalities. I can't wait to watch what God will do with these three beautiful ladies! I always remember wondering at my high school graduation where I would be in five years and it looks like I'm doing what I LOVE. I think these ladies will feel the same as they travel through college and discover who they are and what they are meant to be doing. Thanks girls! I wish the absolute very best for you!!

This past weekend, Stephen and I flew to Fruitland Idaho to document a very special couples wedding. It was magical and beautiful. Although Stephen and I both knew Cortney and Scott from college, we didn't get the chance to share in their love until watching it take place behind our lens last June. We met them in San Juan Capistrano for their engagement session and it was pure bliss. Every time I see Cortney, her sweet heart and smile makes me happy. Her face lights up everytime she smiles and its easy to see how much she admires Scott. There is just something different about them that is comforting to be around. It might be their comfort with each other, or their uplifting spirits. Whatever it is, we had an absolute blast with the both of them! We arrived in beautiful Boise and made our way to the small town of Fruitland. We breathed in the fresh cool air and scouted out the wedding location. Cortney's parents decided they would host the amazing wedding at their house. I have to say, this might have been the BEST house wedding I have ever seen. It was simply PERFECT for a wedding. Cortney and Scott decided to have a first look with each other before the ceremony and it was beautiful. We took some photos at the house before heading out to the perfect little apple orchard to begin the session. We made our way through the town Cortney grew up in and tried our best to capture the essence of this cute little town. We felt so honored to have been apart of this special day and we hope that we captured their love the way they see each other and the way the Lord sees them. We felt overwhelmed with generosity at the wedding and couldn't have been more thrilled to have been apart of it all!! To see a slideshow of the rest of the day, click HERE.

I loved these series of photos. Cortney got more and more excited as she was almost finished getting ready.

Scott is so sweet and sincere with Cortney. He is so gentle spirited and we enjoyed watching the both of them interact.

We had to show what Fruitland is all about RIGHT?!

We LOVED these tall fruit boxes stacked on one another behind the fruit stand just minutes from Cortney's house.

Cortney's younger brother built the wood structures which helped the ceremony feel like a church!

I loved all the windows lining the sides of the ceremony!

I loved loved loved the little chandelier hanging from the top of the wood panel. It was a perfect touch!

Cortney and Scott gave us so much time for photos! We were so excited to really explore Fruitland!

The wood theme was throughout the entire wedding.

I LOVED all the guys socks! SO awesome.

I loved Cortney's cute getaway outfit! So classy with a cute little clutch!

No, this post isn't about the movie "All about Steve" although I do hope I make it to the theaters soon to see it!! This post is about Steve and our awesome weddings. Well, its basically about Steve helping me find places to pose my bride and grooms. He hates posing for me but I think I caught a few cute shots of Steve helping me with lighting. I've been saving all my pre-wedding shots of Steve and ill be posting them periodically because they are pretty funny! (ps- he doesn't know this ) We have been shooting together now for two years and it just seems to get better and better. With every wedding, Steve's eye for lighting just keeps growing and I'm so excited for us to grow stronger as a team. Stephen's birthday is this Saturday the 19th and being the sweet gem that he is, he told me to take the job and we would celebrate later. This is why I love Steve with all my heart.... he is giving, kind, and has a heart of gold that I just can't seem to get enough of. I can't wait to marry Stephen in FOUR weeks! I can't believe its right around the corner!! Well, I just thought I would post a few entertaining photos of Steve in honor of his upcoming birthday. Happy Birthday Steve!!
Hope everyone is having a wonderful week! Don't forget to soak up the last bit of heat and enjoy the fall air as its creeping in. Starbucks is finally offering Pumpkin spice lattes again.... DRINK ONE!! :) |

I LOVE this shot of Steve. He was pretending to walk towards me but looks like he should be a calvin klein model. Thanks steve :)

Steve likes to rock out to music at weddings. Our bride and grooms don't always notice but we are always in the background dancing to the songs too!! :)

Steve looks like he's tired of me shooting photos of him.

Ok... so I was definitely laughing as I was taking this photo. Stephen is pretending to walk with someone. Posing for photos. ha! OH Steve :)

Today I feel VERY compelled to write to my fellow photographers and clients about something that t is SO important to planning a wedding. A timeline. A timeline that reflects a stress free RELAXED day. We all know stress doesn't ever help anything! After shooting too many weddings with a crammed schedule and limited time for photos, I am 100 percent positive I am right about this :) Its always a bummer when you are only given such limited time for photos and are not able to work to your fullest. We all seem to know how this goes oh too well.
To the photographers:
When you meet with your clients, be sure to stress stress stress how important photo time is during the wedding. Encourage your bride and groom to see each other before the wedding. I know know know that the moment the bride and groom have when they first see each other for the first time is SO important and special and not everyone wants to do the first glance BUT its something to at least talk about during the consultation. Doing this seems to leave enough time for a variety of photos and the emotions before the ceremony seem to be more clam. I find that my best photos come from before the ceremony AND after. This also gives you time to do family photos before the ceremony which leaves more time after the ceremony to take more photos of the couple AND even maybe time for the couple to enjoy the cocktail hour with all the guests. I know this well because as I have been planning my own wedding, I realized that seeing Stephen before the ceremony would be the best. It would allow more time for photos and we would be more happy after the wedding is finished because we have more photos to look back on! :) Unfortunately, clients often pick ceremony times before speaking with you and sometimes don't leave enough or any room for photo time. What do you do? Well, you cant do much about the schedule but you can work fast :) I often find myself working quickly through family photos or suggesting the bride and groom take an extra 10 minutes to squeeze in before the reception begins. People may eat 10 minutes later but at least the bride and groom will have more photos to keep forever. If you are provided with VERY limited time, be sure to let your bride and groom know their expectations might need to be adjusted. I say this because a client hires you based off what they have seen on your website and blog and if you are not provided with the same amount of time like the rest of your weddings, you might leave the wedding with less photos, taken in less creative spots, due to the lack of poor planning which is beyond YOUR control. You can only do with what you are given.
To the bride and groom:If you read what I wrote to the photographers above, this may sound familiar. Again, I reiterate the importance of a schedule. It is only for YOUR best interest that you plan your wedding around what you will have forever... which is of course a wonderful marriage but also long lasting photographs. I have shot too many weddings that were very poorly planned. I have BEAUTIFUL photos from every wedding but I am not always able to work my creativity out to my fullest if I am given a very very short limited time. Don't get me wrong, I work really great with limited time but I know I can do even BETTER if I am given the proper amount of time. YOU will feel relaxed and comfortable during the photo time and not rushed. I find that we can take more time with family photos, bridal party photos and most importantly, the bride and groom. It gives us as the photographers more time to work around the venue and really absorb YOU through the camera. Light is extremely important when shooting a wedding and I can't stress enough how important it is to work with your photographer on time and lighting. We see things differently than you do and we just need more time to really allow our creativity to flow. PLEASE consider this when planning your wedding schedule. EVERY client deserves a fabulous wedding with amazing photographs and we ALL want to give you the best but like anyone, we need time to do that :) You will remember your wedding better if you take time to absorb it all in! If anyone needs an example schedule, I would LOVE to send one over. I have created my own wedding schedule for my own wedding and I would LOVE to share it with you! I really hope this was helpful and hope everyone is having a fabulous Tuesday! I will be sharing a video post again this week and would love some more questions! Leave a comment! Margo begged me this morning to give her another appearance on the blog ... so I just couldn't resist! |
